The Lasik Eye Surgery

Often times I see ads regarding Lasik and Dry Eyes Surgery. I was just wondering how this differs from the traditional eyes surgery. Lasik Laser Surgery according to what I read on my researches is that it’s a kind of eye surgery which doesn’t need to cut through the eye. The operation is simply done with the help of lasers. This is actually a more accurate surgery since its done with the help of advanced devices and apparatus which is done with pinpoint accuracy. Here, the light passes through the eye and the doctor is able to see the retina of the patient. It gives the doctor a clear view on which part of the eye is damaged.

This kind of operation is a bit more costly compared to other types of operation but so far the result is all worth it. With the help of wavefront lasik eye surgery patients are assured to have a great improvement in their vision and eyesight.

Astigmatism

My sister has a vision problem, she has astigmatism. Astigmatism is an optical defect, whereby the eye has an inability to focus at an object and thus producing a blurred image. We did not immediately recognize that she has an eye defect because we don’t know the symptoms of astigmatism. She just often told us that her eyes hurt and she always have headaches. My mother was worried so we brought her to an ophthalmologist and the doctor gave her reading glasses for vision correction. The doctor told her that she must wear them everyday for her to avoid headaches.

When she was in high school and college she really never mind of wearing glasses but when she was already working she was advised to just wear contact lenses. At first she was not use to them and has a hard time of putting them on. After a few weeks, she was comfortable of using them but she always got the hassle of replacing them and buying new ones every three months. She consulted her ophthalmologist to help her find a way to correct her vision and the doctor suggests a laser eye surgery. But I don’t think my sister would undergo into such because she is really quite afraid of needles.

Should you switch from Eyeglasses to Contact Lenses?

Vision problems affect more than “Approximately 168.5 million U.S. residents, who use vision correction such as eyeglasses or contact lenses, representing 75% of the country’s total adult population. — VisionWatch (Jobson Medical Information LLC and Vision Council of America), June 2006. This staggering statistic indicates just how serious vision problems truly are for many of adults.

These adults have the choice of staying with their pair of glasses or switching over to contact lenses. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. The main benefit of glasses is that they are very easy to wear and maintain. However, they are affected by the weather (glasses can fog up) and it’s also very tough to play sports in a pair of eyeglasses. These are two main reasons why a lot of people now wear contacts.

Contact lenses are also better than eyeglasses for certain vision disorders like long-sightedness, shortsightedness and presbyopia. People also prefer contact lenses because they look and feel better for a majority of people who struggle to find a frame that suits their face. However there are also some disadvantages of wearing contacts; specifically contacts can cause your eyes to become drier than normal and there is a much higher risk of contracting an eye allergy or disease if the contact lenses are not handled properly and regularly sanitized.

Overall the choice between eyeglasses and contacts is a personal decision which is influenced by each individual’s needs and preference. Make sure that you do your research and choose a vision correction solution that you feel comfortable with!
